Aelorian
"We plant for the shade we will never stand in, and we count the planting itself enough, knowing the shade will fall on those who come after."
House: Astraea
Terrain: Verdant (+2 power)
Name: recovered from the ancient record through translation
Aelorian is a territory world of House Astraea, a green planet whose forests have never been cleared and whose oldest trees were already old when the colonists arrived.
Naming voice
Aelorian opens on a long vowel and closes on one, in the manner of every recovered Astraea name, and the translators noted that the word seems built to be said slowly, the way the house says most things it means to keep.
The inscription
One of the 54 edicts: the inscription this world carries, protected under the Stratagem Accord.
Theme: Patience / long view.
Discovery. Deep in the old growth, a survey team came on a tree of immense age that had split down its length. The break laid the heartwood open to the light for the first time, and seated in the core was a smooth inscribed tablet. The tree had been planted around the stone, or the stone set against the sapling; no one could establish which. Across two hundred thousand years the living wood had closed over the carving ring by ring, carrying it to the centre of the trunk. The crew read the edict through the split, in green light falling through the canopy, from a tablet that had not seen the sky since the forest was young.
