Drovaal
"The post you take is the post you keep. No length of the wall holds itself, and to hold a length is to answer for it."
House: Imperia
Terrain: Pelagic (+2 power)
Name: recovered from the ancient record through translation
Drovaal is an ocean world held as territory by House Imperia, its land scattered in a long archipelago across grey pelagic water.
Naming voice
Drovaal closes like a door, two heavy syllables and done, the long doubled vowel of the second giving the word just enough swing to shut with. The name takes the same time to say at a shout as at a murmur. That made it a practical word for a world of watch-posts strung across open water, where most of what was ever said had to carry over wind.
The inscription
One of the 54 edicts: the inscription this world carries, protected under the Stratagem Accord.
Theme: Duty / responsibility.
Discovery. The survey crews that worked the archipelago found a chain of identical stone watch-posts running its whole length, one post to an island, each set within sight of the next. The line never broke across the open water. They climbed and measured every one before they understood what they were standing in. Only a single post, raised slightly higher than the rest, carried the edict. It was cut across the crown, where any watcher who took that station would read it at the start of every turn of duty. After two hundred thousand years of storms off the grey sea, the post still stood and the words were still legible.
