Korvanis

"The wall they cannot breach is the one you raise within. Master the self, and no siege ever finds you. What governs itself was never taken."

House: Imperia
Terrain: Verdant (+2 power)
Name: recovered from the ancient record through translation

Korvanis is a green world held by House Imperia, a verdant territory of old-growth forest. For two hundred thousand years the forest has been growing over everything the previous civilisation built.

Naming voice

Korvanis carries its weight in the middle syllable and sets it down on a hissing close, the only Imperia name that ends on breath instead of stone. The recovery scholars read that final sound as the remnant of an older grammatical ending, worn down but never dropped. The house kept it as found. Imperia does not trim what it inherits to make it easier to say.

The inscription

One of the 54 edicts: the inscription this world carries, protected under the Stratagem Accord.

Theme: Discipline / self-mastery.
Discovery. At the forest's edge the survey came on a sealed stone watchtower, squat and unornamented. Its outer face had gone entirely to moss, so that from a distance it read as a hill among the trees. The tower had been closed from the inside, with no door the crews could find, and they entered through a single breach in the lower wall. Within, the chamber had stayed dry and intact through the whole age of its abandonment. The forest that had swallowed the outside had never gotten in. The edict was cut into the inner wall, facing the empty room rather than the world, and the centuries had left it untouched. Whoever raised the tower had built it to defend nothing but the words.
