Hollun
"From the high quiet, every life looks brief and every word too loud. Speak as one who could be gone within the hour, and most of what you would have said will go unsaid."
House: Nox
Terrain: Aetheric (+3 power)
Name: recovered from the ancient record through translation
Hollun is a territory world of House Nox, a banded gas giant with no surface to hold, so that everything the house keeps here hangs in orbit above the clouds.
Naming voice
Hollun is two low syllables that barely open the mouth, and the translators note that it is one of the few recovered Nox names with no hard sound in it anywhere, a name that can be said in full without breaking a silence.
The inscription
One of the 54 edicts: the inscription this world carries, protected under the Stratagem Accord.
Theme: Mortality / the long view of silence.
Discovery. A derelict station still keeps its orbit around the gas giant, two hundred thousand years after its builders left it. The boarding crew found the interior spare and dark and intact. In the central chamber the edict is etched into the far wall, set to face the station's one great viewport and the banded planet filling it. The room holds nothing else. Whoever cut the words placed them on the one wall a reader could face only by turning their back on the planet.
