House: Astraea
One of the eighteen locked family surnames assigned by the Archive on Varuna at first activation.
Notes on the name
New. The forward-looking family of the house that thinks in centuries.
In the genetic structure
One of three families within Astraea. The eighteen-family system is the Archive's optimisation of the founding 60,000 colonist population. Three genetically distinct groupings per house, 18 total across the system. Cross-house pairings recommended by the Archive keep the broader gene pool varied across generations.
Character of the line
Novara was Astraea's forward-looking line, the new family in a house that thought in centuries. If Edenroth tended what was already planted, Novara watched the horizon line of it, the discovery side of the house's growth, the options opening a little wider each cycle that no rival had known were there to find.
The temperament joined patience to curiosity. A Novara calculated in generations like any Astraean but kept turning up what was already waiting to be found, treating the long arc not as a thing to wait out but as a field that kept revealing new ground. Among the three lines it was the one most drawn to what the long game made newly possible, the quiet conviction that a slowly maturing engine does not just grow larger but grows stranger and richer than anyone burning fast could match.
