The Houses Declared

What happens

Roughly fifty years after arrival, the six houses were formally declared. By then each was already operating as a distinct culture, with its own philosophical orientation, its own technical specialty, and its own bond to the world it had settled. The declaration changed very little on the ground. It was a public acknowledgement of what had already become true, the day the six finally agreed aloud that the differences between them were real and were not going away.
