What it is
Matter-energy conversion, and total: it turns matter wholly into energy. The colonists found it intact on Iolaran, the machine whole but its operating procedures missing, what remained written in a language no human had read before.
The site
The site itself is a graveyard. Armour lies on the floors at every choke point, the bones inside it long since gone to dust. The Reactor was being defended when the people defending it lost, and Solari scholars walk past their armour every day on the way to the work.
