Planets

Caethun

"The mouth kept shut keeps the life behind it. The mouth opened hands that life to whoever happened to be listening."

House: Nox
Terrain: Ignis (+2 power)
Name: recovered from the ancient record through translation

Caethun is a territory world of House Nox, a planet of volcanic plateaus and drifting vapor where the ground still shifts and settles under its own heat.

Naming voice

Caethun ends on a closed syllable, the mouth shutting on the final sound, and the house's translators have noted how well that suits a world whose edict is about the kept mouth; whether the ancient Nox intended the echo, no record says.

The inscription

One of the 54 edicts: the inscription this world carries, protected under the Stratagem Accord.

Theme: Silence / restraint.
Discovery. A plain stone shrine stands on one of the volcanic plateaus, and the slow working of the heated ground had lifted its base off true. Survey teams came to document the lean and found a gap opening under the foundation. Beneath the shrine lay an inscribed slab carrying the edict, buried face up before the stones above were ever laid. The shrine itself bears no writing at all. Whoever built it set the words underneath on purpose and raised the blank stone over them to keep every other eye occupied.
