Tharosian
House: Imperia
Founding-era name (historical): Olympus
Terrain: Aetheric (gas giant)
Summary
Tharosian is the homeworld of House Imperia, a banded gas giant that no one has ever stood on and that has anchored a house for two centuries anyway. The colonists who arrived in its orbit looked at the immense world below them, and the seat of the gods seemed the only fit comparison. They named it Olympus, reaching back to the mythologies of the Sol system for a mountain high enough. The name held until the translators worked out what the previous civilisation had called the planet. Tharosian is the nearest rendering anyone has managed of that older word. Olympus passed into the histories, where it remains.
The world
Imperia does not live on the gas giant itself. The house holds The Aurokhal, the orbital station inherited from the civilisation that came before, and it is there that Imperian life is actually lived. In common usage the two names divide the work cleanly. Daily life and the seat of the house are spoken of as The Aurokhal, while the world it circles is named Tharosian.
