Pyrennor

"Nothing holds by accident. What endures was meant to endure, and built by hands that did not look away from the work until it was done."

House: Imperia
Terrain: Aetheric (+3 power)
Name: recovered from the ancient record through translation

Pyrennor is a gas giant in the territory of House Imperia, an aetheric world banded in storm and held from orbit rather than from any surface.

Naming voice

Pyrennor stacks its sounds the way the fortress that orbits it stacks its decks, a light first syllable bearing down through a doubled consonant onto a long, load-carrying close. It is the only name in the Imperia register that rises in pitch as it is spoken. The house's readers of the old script believe the lift was deliberate, a word built for a world with no ground.

The inscription

One of the 54 edicts: the inscription this world carries, protected under the Stratagem Accord.

Theme: Discipline of structure.
Discovery. A derelict orbital fortress still rings the gas giant, holding the same station it has held since its builders left it, an artificial constant against the slow turning of the banded clouds below. The survey ships matched its orbit and docked. The hull plating had taken two hundred thousand years of micrometeorite weather without losing its shape. The crews worked inward through deck after silent deck to the structure's heart, where the frame gathers into a ring of load-bearing pillars that carry the whole. There they found the edict, etched into one of those pillars at the exact point where the fortress's weight passes through it.
