Summary
Iolaran is the homeworld of House Solari, a desert world under a sun that dominates every hour of its day. The colonists felt that dominance before their boots touched sand, and they named the planet Helios, after the Sol-system's own sun god. The name was chosen on the way down and never seriously questioned for generations. What ended it was not doubt but discovery. The translation effort that unlocked the earlier civilisation's record returned that civilisation's word for the world, and Iolaran is the closest English rendering of it. The house took the recovered name for daily use and let Helios go.
The world
The surface heat drove the colonists underground from the first. Most Solari came to live in printed habitats braced into the rock, spread through cave systems and below-surface infrastructure where the temperature held steady. They left the open surface to two uses: ground to cross, and a field for solar collection.
