Lirissel

"What is hidden has already been seen by the one who listens long enough. All that waits is the choosing of the hour to name it, and the naming is the only move that matters."

House: Myndari
Terrain: Pelagic (+2 power)
Name: recovered from the ancient record through translation

Lirissel is an ocean world held by House Myndari, one of the pelagic territories, and on a single remote islet it carries one of the edicts.

Naming voice

Lirissel runs on liquid sounds from end to end, three light syllables that fall away like water off a deck, and it is among the most fluid of the old Myndari names. That civilisation built its words the way it seems to have built everything else, without a hard corner anywhere.

The inscription

One of the 54 edicts: the inscription this world carries, protected under the Stratagem Accord.

Theme: Knowledge / truth.
Discovery. The survey of Lirissel charted thousands of islands before it reached the one that mattered. It was a bare outer islet, so far from the main archipelagos that nothing else stood within sight of it in any direction. On it the crews found an ancient listening-station of alloy construction, its dishes and antennae still raised toward the sky, on a rock barely large enough to hold it. The edict was etched into the exposed upper deck. Unlike the inscriptions the ice and the vaults sheltered elsewhere, this one had taken the full weather of the world. Two hundred thousand years of salt wind had softened the letters without ever quite erasing what they said.
