Drennoch
"What runs deepest runs quietest. The loud are spent and forgotten, and only the still remain; the cold gives no warning before it arrives."
House: Nox
Terrain: Pelagic (+2 power)
Name: recovered from the ancient record through translation
Drennoch is a territory world of House Nox, a planet of grey seas and scattered, fog-bound islands where the water runs cold and deep between them.
Naming voice
Drennoch carries the heaviest sound in the recovered Nox register, two dark syllables ending in a sound like a stone going into deep water, and the translators matched it to this world before they matched almost any other, because no other planet in the house's holdings could have worn it.
The inscription
One of the 54 edicts: the inscription this world carries, protected under the Stratagem Accord.
Theme: Silence / endurance.
Discovery. The survey of the archipelago ended at its most remote islet, a bare shelf of rock days out from the nearest land. A single dark stone marker stood on it alone. The edict is cut into the seaward face, turned away from every island and every direction a reader could come from. The previous civilisation carried the stone there by boat, raised it where no one lived, and aimed the words at open water running unbroken to the horizon. To read them, the crew had to wade around the marker through the cold shallows.
