Calenor

"The current answers only the open hand. Strike while the line runs hot, for what cools is power you chose to lose."

House: Solari
Terrain: Ignis (+2 power)
Name: recovered from the ancient record through translation

Calenor is a Solari fire-world, a volcanic territory whose heat the house turns to power. Its slopes have been worked since the first survey crews landed, and the planet has carried the same name on the radio ever since.

Naming voice

Calenor is built around its central syllable, a short bright peak with an even slope on either side, and the symmetry makes it almost impossible to mishear. The first survey crews on the volcanic slopes adopted it into radio use within days of the translators releasing it. The word cut through static where longer names broke apart, and it has been the working callsign of the planet ever since.

The inscription

One of the 54 edicts: the inscription this world carries, protected under the Stratagem Accord.

Theme: Decisive timing.
Discovery. High in the volcanic country the crews reached a sealed reactor core that had never been breached. When they opened the firing chamber they found the walls still warm to the touch, the heat banked rather than gone, held while the slopes outside erupted, cooled, and erupted again, burying their own lava fields one over another and leaving the core whole every time. The edict had been cut at the chamber's central focus, the point where the reactor's power had once gathered. The warmth in the stone made the words read less like a relic than like an instruction the machine was still waiting for someone to follow.
