Saroana
"What was planted and tended will grow again, for the hand that knows what returns plants itself where the return will come."
House: Astraea
Terrain: Duneclad (+1 power)
Name: recovered from the ancient record through translation
Saroana is a territory world of House Astraea, a desert planet of slow-walking dunes that was not always dry; the buried watercourses under the sand say the previous civilisation knew a greener world here.
Naming voice
Saroana is all open vowels, barely interrupted, and the translators have remarked that of every recovered Astraea name it is the one that sounds least like the world that carries it now, a green name left standing on a world gone to sand.
The inscription
One of the 54 edicts: the inscription this world carries, protected under the Stratagem Accord.
Theme: Cycles / patience.
Discovery. The dunes had buried a stone terrace garden whole, and the survey teams excavated it the same way, planter by planter out of the sand that had sealed it from the air. The garden was built for a wetter age and outlasted it underground. The edict is cut into the central planter, and the dry burial kept the carving so clean that the first crews could see tool marks in the strokes.
