Thessoran

"The river that cut the canyon was never strong. It only refused to stop, and the canyon is the shape of that refusal."

House: Astraea
Terrain: Ignis (+2 power)
Name: recovered from the ancient record through translation

Thessoran is a territory world of House Astraea, a volcanic planet where rivers run through black rock country and have been cutting it down since before either civilisation arrived.

Naming voice

Thessoran lands harder than most names in the Astraea register, two firm consonants holding the long vowel between them, and the house has always thought it fitting that a world of rock and water should carry a name with stone at both ends.

The inscription

One of the 54 edicts: the inscription this world carries, protected under the Stratagem Accord.

Theme: Persistence.
Discovery. A river had spent geological ages cutting a canyon through the volcanic rock. The survey teams found the edict carved high on one wall, at the level where the water ran when the previous civilisation cut it. In the two hundred thousand years since, the river had worked its way down through the strata and left the words stranded far above the current. The crew came down the canyon wall on ropes to read them, to a ledge no foot could otherwise find. The height of the carving above the water is the depth of rock the river has worn away since the carvers stood beside it.
