Vossen
"The one who was never seen working leaves a name nothing can pull down, because there was never anything to strike at. Death is loud only to the loud."
House: Nox
Terrain: Pelagic (+2 power)
Name: recovered from the ancient record through translation
Vossen is a territory world of House Nox, a drowned planet where the sea took most of the land long before either civilisation knew it, leaving grey water and a scattering of low islands.
Naming voice
Vossen begins on a soft hiss and ends low, and the translators noted that of all the recovered Nox names it sits closest to the sound of its own world, a name that can be said into a sea wind without raising the voice.
The inscription
One of the 54 edicts: the inscription this world carries, protected under the Stratagem Accord.
Theme: Mortality / what remains.
Discovery. A field of memorial stones fills a hollow on one low island, raised by the previous civilisation for its dead lost at sea. Dozens of weathered markers stand gathered where the constant wind never enters. The edict is cut into a stone at the centre, taller than all the rest, the one stone in the field that carries no name. The survey crews could still make out lettering on many of the markers, names in a language no one living can sound out. They recorded the central stone last.
