Character of the line
Verren was the listening done quietly, the Myndari line whose name turned on a hearing, a head inclined toward something the room had not yet noticed. It carried the surveillance side of the house's character most plainly, the detection of what others believed was hidden, and it did so without ever making a show of having heard.
The temperament was the purest expression of the Myndari read. A Verren treated every silence as something to be listened through and every absence of evidence as a gap in their own attention, and took the house's quiet pleasure in the read itself, earned and exact, rather than in being seen to watch. Of the three lines, Verren was the one that closed a conversation with the single word the house used for everything understood and nothing announced: heard.
