The Archive's autonomous activation

Date: approx 2411 (estimated, post-discovery) – approx 2411
Era: Era of Slow Fracture

What happens

When astraea first brought the-archive fully online, the system carried out a function it had been built to run the moment it woke, with no one having asked it to. It reached into the full colonist genetic database, all sixty thousand people across the six houses, and within hours it had analysed the entire population and returned an answer nobody had requested: eighteen genetically optimal groupings, three to each house. The Archive even named them.

Consequence

The colonists only learned what had been done after the fact, finding the groupings already drawn and named before anyone had consented to the question being asked. Adoption was slow and uneven at first, met with as much unease as acceptance, but over time it spread until it was near-universal. The full account is recorded in the-archive-institution. The eighteen surnames inherited from that moment are now locked canon, listed in the folder.
