Brakkenor
"Hold what you can steer; release what you cannot, and release it fast, so your hands are free the instant the next move opens."
House: Kael
Terrain: Pelagic (+2 power)
Name: recovered from the ancient record through translation
Brakkenor is an ocean world in the territory of House Kael, and on one of its island shores it carries one of the edicts.
Naming voice
The old Kael built their names on a fractured rhythm, sounds that begin to roll and then break off against a hard ending. Brakkenor sits squarely in the pattern, the open first syllables gathering speed before the closing consonant cuts them short. Said aloud it lands like a wave hitting a hull.
The inscription
One of the 54 edicts: the inscription this world carries, protected under the Stratagem Accord.
Theme: Control / acceptance.
Discovery. The wreck had been visible from orbit for as long as anyone had been looking, an ancient alloy trial-vessel grounded on an island shore, half-buried in sand and grown over with weed. It took a landing party to learn what it carried. The helm deck stood open to the sky, scoured clean by two hundred thousand years of salt wind. The edict was etched into the deck plating at the steering position, in the metal under where the pilots' feet would have been. Whoever cut it there meant it for a crew under way. It was read instead by surveyors standing on a ship the ocean had long since beaten.
