Vyrissa

"The one who knows needs nothing shown. What is understood and kept costs the knower nothing, and leaves the other certain there was nothing to find."

House: Myndari
Terrain: Ignis (+2 power)
Name: recovered from the ancient record through translation

Vyrissa is a volcanic territory of House Myndari, an ignis world. The edict it holds was found not in a vault or a ruin but in a single small room above a lake of fire.

Naming voice

Vyrissa hisses at the centre and runs out soft at the end, true to the long, liquid pattern of the old Myndari names. It is a quiet word for a loud world, and that contrast turned out to be the whole character of the place.

The inscription

One of the 54 edicts: the inscription this world carries, protected under the Stratagem Accord.

Theme: Strategy / the seen and unseen.
Discovery. On the rim of an active caldera the survey crews found a small basalt observation post, a single room with a stone bench and one window opening onto the lava field below. Whoever built it had sat there to watch the fire. The crews expected the edict outside, on the structure's face, the way other worlds carried theirs. The outer walls were bare. The inscription was inside, cut into the rear wall of the room, readable only from the watcher's seat with your back to the view. For two hundred thousand years the words had faced the empty bench, addressed to the one person in the room who came to see something other than them.
