Aerith

"Heat seized becomes work; heat left to cool becomes a weight you carry for nothing. The power you failed to draw does not wait, and it does not forgive the waiting."

House: Solari
Terrain: Ignis (+2 power)
Name: recovered from the ancient record through translation

Aerith is a territory of House Solari, a world of fire-terrain whose heat drives Solari power. A thin bright atmosphere rides above the working heat, and the geothermal layer below has been cut for power since long before the house arrived.

Naming voice

Aerith opens on air and ends on a quick, dry stop. It is the lightest beginning in the Solari register finishing on its shortest close, a breath of a name for a world of fire. The mismatch drew comment in the recovery notes. The reading that stuck is that the old civilisation had named the thin bright atmosphere above the heat rather than the heat itself.

The inscription

One of the 54 edicts: the inscription this world carries, protected under the Stratagem Accord.

Theme: Decisive timing.
Discovery. The edict was found deep below the surface, in a thermal shaft the old civilisation cut toward the geothermal layer. The survey crews went down on cable rigs. The obsidian walls were smooth and black around them, the air shimmering as the glow rose from below, and they descended until they reached the depth where the rock's warmth becomes usable power. The words were cut clean into the obsidian at exactly that line. They held the same heat as the stone, and the crews read them by the light coming up from the working depth.
