Selenae is a Solari ice world, a glacian territory where the old civilisation kept heat alive beneath the cold.
Naming voice
Selenae ends on a sound the present tongue does not really have, a long doubled vowel rendered with two letters and spoken with a slight falling glide. Every speaker learns it slightly differently. The house has never standardised it. The small variation from voice to voice has become part of the name, the one soft uncertainty in a register otherwise settled, on a world where everything else has been fixed in ice.

Discovery. Beneath the polar ice the crews found a vault still warmed by its own reactor, sealed against the cold for an age the ice cores above it could count layer by layer. The thermal scans had shown it first as an impossibility, a steady point of warmth far below the freezing line. The dig went down through the dark to test the reading. When they cut the vault open, frost retreated from the breach as the interior air met the cold. The inner alloy wall held the edict, and the metal was faintly warm under their gloves, the reactor's heat carried unbroken through all the frozen time above it. The crews who cut down to it were the first hands it had warmed since the builders'.
