Halvor

"The wall is the same hand laying the same stone every morning. The wall is what the hand became."

House: Imperia
Terrain: Duneclad (+1 power)
Name: recovered from the ancient record through translation

Halvor is a desert territory of House Imperia, a duneclad world where the sand has been moving since before anyone arrived to watch it move.

Naming voice

Halvor is the plainest of the Imperia names, two level syllables with no ornament on either of them, a word that lands flat and stays where it lands. The house has never softened it with an honorific or stretched it in ceremony. It is said the same way in a treaty and across a dinner table, and the translators suspect it always was.

The inscription

One of the 54 edicts: the inscription this world carries, protected under the Stratagem Accord.

Theme: Discipline as identity.
Discovery. The survey's instruments registered it first as a hard return deep beneath the dunes, a flat plane buried under more sand than any natural drift could account for. Reaching it became an excavation measured in years rather than weeks. The crews moved close to a million tons before the last of the overburden came away. What they uncovered was a single polished face of bedrock, dressed level across its whole width, with the edict cut deep into the stone. Nothing else had been built there, no chamber and no structure, only the work itself. The dry sand that buried the carving had also sealed it. When the crews brushed the last grains out of the letters, the cut edges still held the tool marks of the original strokes.
